Bridge of Lions Closed for 450th Anniversary Celebration
The Bridge of Lions will be closed for St. Augustine's 450th Anniversary Celebration. The bridge closings will be September 4th and 5th from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Anniversary celebration commemorates 450 years since Pedro Menendez landed on the shores of St. Augustine in 1565. The Nation's Oldest City will celebrate with a five day event "Celebrate 450!." The event will run from September 3 through September 8.
There will be fireworks, re-enactments, a procession, music, a street festival and a birthday cake to share. This important event in the Ancient City has been in the planning for nearly four years.
Here to celebrate with us will be Aaron Neville and Mavis Staples on September 4 as well as Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, JJ Grey & Mofro, Justin Townes Earle, and Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers on the 5th! There will also be local musicians.
There will be five stages with the main stage at the Bayfront. The other four stages will be at the Plaza, Hypolita Street, the Colonial Quarter and Aviles Street.
Fireworks over the Matanzas River will be on September 5th. The Bridge of Lions is a perfect spot to watch them from as well as from the Bayfront.
Don't miss this important event. There won't be another celebration like it for another 50 years!
